For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
YOU ARE A PIECE OF WORK!
When Paul used the word “workmanship” he used the Greek word “poiema” a word we also translate as “poem.” Regardless of the language, it may make us wonder what in the world is he talking about. For me, workmanship conjures up images of clay models I once made in grade school, and I think I gave up on the last poem I tried to write after trying to find any word that rhymes with “orange”!
Maybe the challenge is to not think about my workmanship or my poetry, but rather to remember God’s creativity. When God made you, He made a uniquely beautiful poem. He gave you the strength to face difficult days and the capacity to celebrate all that is good! He gave you the faith to trust in Him and the confident hope of eternity in Heaven. One day we will see how all of life was a tapestry of events to help us become His prized “workmanship” and a most wonderful “poem.”
Some people are gifted at writing poetry, some are artists who can make sculptures. You are gifted in your unique ways. Your unique traits are evident enough that you are God’s one-of-a-kind poem and a blessing for the world to hear and see. Let the eyes of your heart see God’s creativity He has instilled in you. You are God’s wonderful piece of work!
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,” Ephesians 1:18
