Phone Home

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18  “Rejoice always, pray continually,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

I wonder if there is an app on the phone that would tell me how many times I picked up my phone in a day.  I heard about a child that was asked what they wanted to be when they grew up, and their response was “A phone! My parents spend all day with their phone, they always know where it is, they hold it carefully, talk to it often and check it constantly.”
Apparently, we live in a state of “continual partial attention” – many feel the need to always know what is happening “out there” to make sure they are not missing anything, so we check our phones often.
Our phones are filled with amazing technology, but they can come with a price.  We have to be careful of replacing praying continually with checking our phones continually.  Almost anyone can call, text, or email me and I will engage and respond back to them.  My challenge to myself is to include talking to God about what is going on throughout the day amidst the many interruptions.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18   “Rejoice always, pray continually,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Maybe the next time the phone rings, dings vibrates, say a quick prayer.   For some of us, it is a sure way to pray continually!  Uh oh, an appointment reminder just popped up on my phone, Lord, help me! Time to go!
