Gift Wrapping

Gift Wrapping
“Every good and perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights”
James 1:17

This is the time of year when we think back to when the Three Wise Men went to see the baby Jesus, and, according to the Book of Matthew, “presented unto Him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” These are simple words, but if we analyze them carefully, we discover an important, yet often-overlooked, theological fact: In this account: There is no mention of wrapping paper!

This may be because the people giving those gifts had two important characteristics: 1. They were wise and 2. they were men.   In general, most men don’t prioritize gift wrapping! Some don’t understand the point of putting paper on a gift just so somebody else can tear it off.

Remember that the important thing is not what you give, or even how you wrap it. The important thing, during this very special time of year, is that you save the receipt!

Men may not know much about wrapping, but we all know God is the greatest giver!  God has given salvation to all who believe! He gives good gifts and loves to watch the joy we express while enjoying His many gifts.  That sounds a lot like Christmas with the family all around.  As the children open gifts, there is great joy in watching them tear off the wrapping paper and find something just for them.  It’s almost more fun when they don’t know who a gift is from, yet their joy is evident.
I wonder if perhaps God gives us so many good gifts that He joyously watches us as we enjoy them! As parents enjoy watching young with their toys, God is still enjoying watching you and me enjoy all He has given us! For God, every day may be like Christmas for His family!
